Rivian is making its flagship R1S and R1T a little easier to configure for 2027, while also adding one of the most requested features from R1S owners – second-row captain’s chairs.
The biggest change is found inside the 2027 R1S, which can now be configured as a six-seater with two individual seats replacing the standard second-row bench. The new captain’s chairs are heated, fold flat, retain child-seat mounting points, and include individual armrests and integrated pop-out cupholders.
The new layout creates a walk-through between the seats, allowing passengers to reach the third row without moving the second row or disturbing installed child seats.
The traditional seven-seat configuration remains available.
Rivian Simplifies R1S and R1T Trims
Rivian is also moving away from naming most R1 variants by their number of motors. The previous Dual-Motor model becomes Premium, while the Tri-Motor is now Performance. Quad remains the name for the range-topping four-motor version, bringing the lineup closer to the naming structure introduced with the R2.
The changes are mostly in name only. Premium models retain a dual-motor setup producing 533 horsepower, with an optional upgrade boosting output to 665 horsepower. Performance models continue with three motors and 850 horsepower, while Quad models deliver 1,025 horsepower.
Range also remains largely unchanged. Premium models offer up to 329 miles (529 km) with the standard battery, while the Long Range battery increases that to as much as 410 miles (660 km) in the R1S and 420 miles (676 km) in the R1T. Performance and Quad versions offer up to 371 miles (597 km) and 374 miles (602 km), respectively.
The R1T also gains a new 20-inch Adventure All-Season wheel and tire combination aimed at improving off-road traction while limiting the usual range penalty associated with more aggressive tires.
Other changes include new interior names and Esker Silver paint, first introduced on the R2, replacing LA Silver.
In the U.S., pricing starts at US$83,990 for the 2027 R1S Premium and US$79,990 for the R1T Premium before destination fees. The new models are available to order now, with deliveries expected to begin in the coming months.
