EV Rebates in Canada (2026)
One place for every Canadian EV rebate: a calculator that shows your price after the federal incentive and provincial rebates, plus a filterable list of 52 Tesla and non-Tesla EVs and plug-in hybrids and which programs each one qualifies for.
Sales tax is charged on the price before the rebate. The calculator works that way too.
At a glance
Federal: EVAP
$5,000 for a battery-electric vehicle and $2,500 for a plug-in hybrid in 2026. The final price must be $50,000 or less (no cap for Canadian-made vehicles), and the vehicle must be made in Canada or a free-trade partner country. Of the Teslas, only the Model Y RWD qualifies.
Provincial rebates
Quebec’s Roulez vert gives up to $2,000 in 2026 ($1,000 or $500 for plug-in hybrids), including on some Model 3 and Model Y trims. Manitoba gives $4,000 on eligible new EVs under $70,000 bought from a Manitoba dealer, but excludes Tesla.
Status by province
No provincial rebate: ON, AB, SK, NS, NB, NL, YT, NT, NU.
Rebate calculator 2026 rates
Pick a vehicle and your province to see the tax on the pre-rebate price, the rebates, and what you pay.
Taxes are based on the pre-rebate amount: tax is calculated on price plus freight, then the federal and provincial rebates are subtracted from the total. Estimates only, for a cash or financed purchase (leases are prorated by term).
Other savings
Home charger: Quebec
$600 toward an eligible Level 2 home charger. The charger must be installed before you apply and cost at least $600 before tax. Details
Home charger: British Columbia
50% of costs up to $350 for single-family homes, row homes and duplexes, plus $200 for a power management device and a $250 bill credit for enrolling a smart charger in Peak Saver. Tesla charging stations are no longer eligible. BC Hydro
Used EVs
Quebec gives $1,000 on an eligible used EV registered in 2026. Manitoba gives $2,500 on used EVs under $70,000 bought from a Manitoba dealer (Tesla and China-built EVs excluded). The federal EVAP covers new vehicles only.
Fees to know: some provinces now charge EV owners instead of offering rebates: Alberta ($200 a year), Saskatchewan ($300 a year), and Nova Scotia ($500 every two years from October 1, 2026). These fees come from our earlier research.
Which EVs qualify: 52 vehicles
This table lists 4 Tesla trims and 48 non-Tesla vehicles, 52 in total (39 battery-electric, 13 plug-in hybrids), sold new in Canada in 2026 that appear on at least one official eligible-vehicle list (Transport Canada’s EVAP list, Quebec’s Roulez vert list or Manitoba’s EV rebate list). 32 qualify for the federal incentive. Dashes mean the vehicle is not eligible for that program. Trims shown are the ones each program names; the federal amount assumes the final price stays at or under $50,000. Use the filters to narrow it down.

Federal incentive: Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP)
Available Ottawa launched the Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) on February 16, 2026, after the old iZEV program ran out of money in January 2025. It runs until March 31, 2031, or until the money runs out. Transport Canada reported $2.00 billion of its $2.275 billion budget still available as of September 1, 2026.
- Amount: up to $5,000 for a battery-electric or hydrogen vehicle and $2,500 for a plug-in hybrid in 2026. Battery-electric drops to $4,000 in 2027, $3,000 in 2028 and 2029, and $2,000 in 2030 and 2031. Plug-in hybrids drop to $2,000 in 2027, $1,500 in 2028 and 2029, and $1,000 in 2030 and 2031. The amount depends on the date the seller submits your eligibility assessment, not your order date.
- Price cap: the final transaction value must be $50,000 or less. That includes the vehicle, options, accessories and dealer or admin fees, minus any manufacturer or dealer discounts, but not taxes, freight, PDI, financing, extended warranties, winter tires or chargers. Canadian-made vehicles have no cap.
- Where it’s built: the vehicle must be made in Canada or a country with a free-trade agreement with Canada. China-built vehicles, including every Tesla Model 3 sold in Canada, don’t qualify.
- Leasing: 12 months minimum, prorated. A 48-month lease gets the full amount; for a battery-electric vehicle that’s $5,000, with $3,750 for 36 months, $2,500 for 24 months and $1,250 for 12 months (half those amounts for plug-in hybrids).
- Limits: one incentive per person over the five-year program. No income test. New vehicles only (demos under 10,000 km count as new). It can be combined with provincial rebates.
- How you get it: an enrolled dealer or seller applies it at the point of sale, after taxes and fees are calculated, so it doesn’t lower your tax.
Which Teslas qualify? Only the Model Y RWD ($49,990, built in Berlin; Transport Canada lists the 2026 Model Y RWD-B). Tesla lists its $2,500 charge as “Freight and PDI”, which is excluded from the cap. The Model Y Premium AWD is over the $50,000 cap, and every Model 3 is built in Shanghai. More: Model Y RWD now eligible for EVAP.
Canadian-made exception: the Dodge Charger and Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid are built in Canada, so they qualify even above $50,000.

Provincial and territorial EV rebates
| Province / territory | Status | Amount (new EV) | Caps and notes | Official info |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quebec | Available | Up to $2,000 (Roulez vert); $1,000 or $500 for plug-in hybrids | MSRP including options must be under $65,000 and the model year and trim must be on Quebec’s eligible list. Eligible 2026 Teslas: Model 3 Premium RWD and Premium AWD; Model Y RWD, Long Range AWD and Premium AWD. Options or upgrades such as AWD or a larger battery can make a different version and count toward the MSRP. The amount depends on your Quebec registration date, and the program ends December 31, 2026 (registrations in 2027 get $0). | quebec.ca |
| Manitoba | Available | $4,000 (battery-electric or plug-in hybrid) | MSRP under $70,000, bought from a Manitoba dealer, model year 2023 or newer in 2026, on the province’s eligible list. Leases: $1,000 to $4,000 by term. You apply through Manitoba Public Insurance after registering, and the cheque arrives in 45 to 60 days. Extended in Budget 2026. Tesla and China-built EVs bought after March 19, 2025 are excluded. | gov.mb.ca |

FAQ
Do rebates reduce the sales tax I pay?
No. The seller charges GST, HST, PST or QST on the full price, including freight and PDI, and then deducts the rebate. That is how Transport Canada’s EVAP and Quebec’s Roulez vert both work, and Manitoba’s rebate is paid after the sale. In Quebec, you still pay tax on $7,000 of combined rebates, about $1,048. In B.C., PST on a new EV or plug-in hybrid is 7% under $75,000 and rises to 8% to 10% between $75,000 and $124,999. Dealer and manufacturer discounts are different and can lower the taxable price.
Can I combine the federal and provincial rebates?
Yes. Transport Canada applies EVAP on top of any provincial incentive, and Manitoba confirms EVAP buyers can also claim its rebate. A battery-electric vehicle that qualifies for both can get $7,000 in Quebec ($5,000 + $2,000) or $9,000 in Manitoba ($5,000 + $4,000). A Model Y RWD in Quebec gets $7,000.
Why doesn’t the Tesla Model 3 get the federal rebate?
Every Model 3 sold in Canada is built in Shanghai. EVAP only covers vehicles made in Canada or in countries with a free-trade agreement with Canada, and China isn’t one of them. Quebec’s Roulez vert has no such rule, so the Model 3 Premium RWD and Premium AWD still get $2,000 there.
Do any Teslas qualify in Manitoba?
No. Manitoba excludes Tesla vehicles bought after March 19, 2025, as well as China-built EVs.
Do options and dealer fees count toward the price cap?
Yes. EVAP counts options, accessories, paint and dealer or admin fees, and subtracts discounts. Freight, PDI, taxes, winter tires, chargers and extended warranties don’t count. Quebec uses MSRP including options (under $65,000) and Manitoba uses MSRP (under $70,000). A trim that starts just under a cap can go over once you add options. The Model Y Premium AWD is only $10 under Quebec’s cap.
Why isn’t my EV on the list?
Usually price or origin. EVAP only covers vehicles made in Canada or a free-trade partner country with a final price of $50,000 or less, so most luxury EVs and all China-built models miss out. Quebec and Manitoba approve specific model years and trims, so a new model year may not be listed yet. Transport Canada says its list isn’t exhaustive, and a discount that brings the final price to $50,000 or less can make an unlisted vehicle eligible.
Do plug-in hybrids qualify?
Yes, at lower amounts. EVAP gives $2,500 for a plug-in hybrid in 2026. Quebec gives $1,000 for a battery of 15 kWh or more and $500 for 8 to 15 kWh. Manitoba gives the same $4,000 as for a battery-electric vehicle.
What if my EV is delivered in 2027?
EVAP drops to $4,000 for battery-electric vehicles and $2,000 for plug-in hybrids in 2027, based on when the seller submits the eligibility assessment. Quebec’s Roulez vert ends December 31, 2026, and vehicles registered in 2027 get $0. Manitoba’s program was extended in Budget 2026 with no end date published.
