Tesla is giving used car buyers in the United States another option with the official launch of its Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program.
While the automaker has traditionally sold used vehicles, the new program adds a more comprehensive inspection and warranty process by putting eligible cars through an inspection covering more than 115 points.
According to Tesla, they check cosmetic, functional and structural components before refurbishing and certifying each vehicle. The inspection also ensures CPO vehicles have no history of structural damage or airbag deployment.
The new program is not available in Canada.
Additional Warranty Coverage
One of the biggest differences between Tesla’s regular used inventory and its new CPO program is the warranty.
Certified vehicles receive a Pre-Owned Limited Vehicle Warranty covering one year or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. Buyers also retain any coverage remaining under the vehicle’s original New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
The Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty also carries over, meaning eligible vehicles maintain whatever coverage remains from Tesla’s original eight-year battery and drive unit warranty.
Tesla is also providing a vehicle history report with information about previous ownership, title status and accident records.

The CPO program comes with a few additional perks. Buyers receive one month of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and one month of Premium Connectivity.
