EV Charging Rewards Programs in Canada
You can get paid for charging your EV at home. Under Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations, home charging creates credits that fuel suppliers buy, and a growing list of apps and charger companies share that money with drivers, from about 2¢ to more than 20¢ per kWh depending on the program. These charging rewards programs are also called EV carbon credit or Clean Fuel credit programs. Here’s every program we found, what it pays, and how it works.

What could you earn in a year?
Top-rate estimates for the programs matching your filters below:
Highest estimated payouts for your filters:
Estimates use each program’s highest advertised rate, which can include tiers, referral boosts or limited-time promos, so actual earnings may be lower. Deposit programs use their lower rate for the first 1,500 kWh. ChargeLab says the average Canadian EV driver charges about 3,500 kWh a year at home.
- How it worksOnly a registered charging-network operator can create credits from home charging, so you join an operator’s program. It reads your kWh from a connected charger (or your car), claims the credits, and pays you a share as cash, points or gift cards.
- Tesla ownersFour programs accept Tesla gear: WattsApp, RoadToEV and Roulez Électrique (Wall Connector), and Telemiq (verified through the car, so any home charger works). Most other programs need an OCPP charger, which the Tesla Wall Connector isn’t.
- One program per chargerA charger can be enrolled in only one program per calendar year. Enrolling the same charger twice can get it disqualified. To switch, leave before December 31 and join the new program on or after January 1.
The rate ladder: 22 charging rewards programs that pay you
Rates and terms are from each operator’s own website, terms, app listing or announcement as of September 26, 2026. Where an operator doesn’t publish a detail, we say so. These are private programs, not government rebates, and operators can change or pause rewards. Tap a program for hardware, payout and sign-up details.

Government and utility programs
| Program | Who runs it | Does it pay EV owners directly? | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clean Fuel Regulations (federal) | Environment and Climate Change Canada | Not directly | Every program above runs on the CFR. A charging-network operator (the company that runs the platform and owns the charging data) creates the credits from home charging. It must spend the credit revenue within two years on charging infrastructure or on lowering the cost of EV ownership, which is where driver payouts come from. Home chargers installed by December 31, 2030 can earn credits for compliance periods starting up to January 1, 2035. s. 102, s. 103 |
| B.C. Low Carbon Fuel Standard | B.C. Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions | No, for houses and small buildings | For charging at a residential building with fewer than five units, the utility (BC Hydro, FortisBC, etc.) is the fuel supplier under B.C.’s Low Carbon Fuels Act, so homeowners can’t claim B.C. credits. Stratas and buildings with five or more units that pay for the charging electricity can claim credits if charging is measured accurately. B.C. drivers can still join the federal CFR programs above. Bulletin RLCF-020 |
| Utilities in other provinces | Hydro-Québec, Hydro One, Nova Scotia Power, ENMAX and others | None found | As of September 26, 2026 we found no utility or provincial program that pays drivers for home-charging credits. |
FAQ
Can I sell my own home-charging credits?
No. Under the Clean Fuel Regulations, credits from home charging are created by a charging-network operator that runs the data platform and owns the charging data. An individual can’t register to create them. That’s why you join a program like the ones above, which claims the credits and shares part of the value with you.
How much can I realistically earn?
It depends on your kWh. ChargeLab says the average Canadian EV driver charges about 3,500 kWh a year at home, which works out to $350 at 10¢/kWh. EcoCharge estimates about 4,000 kWh for a typical B.C. driver. The estimator at the top of this page shows the most you could earn at each program’s highest advertised rate; most people earn less. Deposit programs pay a lower rate on the first 1,500 kWh.
Which programs work with a Tesla Wall Connector?
WattsApp (Gen 3 and Universal Wall Connector), RoadToEV and Roulez Électrique Club (beta support). Telemiq doesn’t need a particular charger because it verifies home charging through your Tesla. Programs built on OCPP, such as Chargy, say the Tesla Wall Connector isn’t compatible.
Can I join more than one program?
Not with the same charger in the same calendar year. WattsApp says a charger that shows up in two programs in the same year can be disqualified from all of them. RoadToEV allows one carbon credit program per calendar year, and Roulez Électrique says charging data already used in another program that year isn’t eligible. To switch, opt out before December 31 and start the new program on or after January 1 (RoadToEV’s withdrawal window is January 1 to 15).
Do I need a smart charger?
Almost always. Most programs read kWh from an internet-connected Level 2 charger, and sessions logged while it’s offline usually don’t count. Telemiq instead verifies charging through a Tesla’s own data, and WattShare says its beta works without a smart charger but hasn’t published a rate.
I’m in B.C. Can I use the provincial Low Carbon Fuel Standard instead?
Not for a house or a building with fewer than five units: the utility is considered the supplier there. B.C. homeowners can join the federal CFR programs above, including EcoCharge, which is for B.C. single-family homes. Stratas with five or more units can look at B.C. credits themselves.
Are these government rebates?
No. They’re private programs funded by selling credits under a federal regulation. For purchase incentives, see EV Rebates in Canada and Tesla Rebates in Canada.
Program terms change often. Confirm current rates, eligibility and payout terms with the operator before enrolling.
