Volkswagen unveils three-row ID. Buzz for North America

Volkswagen of America has unveiled the three-row ID. Buzz electric vehicle in Huntington Beach, California. The electric vehicle (EV) pays tribute to the iconic VW Microbus and has been specifically tailored for the North American. The three-row ID. Buzz is set to arrive in Canada and the US in late 2024.

As suspected this ID. Buzz features a longer wheelbase than its European counterpart, providing more space for both passengers and cargo. It combines retro design elements with modern enhancements, including advanced electric vehicle (EV) technology and driver assistance features.

It boasts a rear-mounted powerplant, producing 282 horsepower, an increase compared to the European model’s 201 horsepower ouput. The North American version also comes with a larger 91 kWh battery, providing improved range, although no estimated figures were provided. Additionally, all-wheel drive will be available, with dual motors delivering about 330 horsepower.

The ID. Buzz retains its classic boxy shape with short overhangs, maximizing utility within a compact footprint. It features retro design cues, including an illuminated oversized VW logo and available two-tone color options. The exterior colors include familiar choices like Energetic Orange, Pomelo Yellow, and Mahi Green, along with new options like Cabana Blue, Metro Silver, and Indium Grey.

Inside, the ID. Buzz combines retro-inspired elements with modern touches, such as a wood-optic dash and VWs signature Play and Pause pedals. The center console is removable and provides flexible storage, including unique dividers that double as a bottle opener and ice scraper. The vehicle offers seating for seven as standard, with options for captain’s chairs and a seating configuration for six.

The ID. Buzz is equipped with a 5.3-inch ID. Cockpit behind the steering wheel and a 12.9-inch central infotainment display. The infotainment system offers wireless AppConnect, wireless charging, and multiple USB-C ports throughout the vehicle. The vehicle also features IQ.DRIVE driver assistance technology, offering lane centering, obstacle detection, and dynamic road sign display.

The three-row ID. Buzz is slated for both the Canadian and US markets. The details above are for the US version, but a VW spokesperson told us to expect largely the same vehicle for Canada, although some features that are optional could be standard in either market.
