Rivian Adding Waze Integration, Something Tesla Owners Have Wanted for Years [2026.31]

Rivian is preparing to roll out a software update that give R1 and R2 owners one of the most requested features from Tesla owners – Waze integration.

According to Rivian software head Wassym Bensaid, the feature will arrive with Rivian’s upcoming 2026.31 over-the-air (OTA) software update. The initial rollout integrate real-time community alerts for speed cameras and police reports directly into its native navigation system.

Bringing Waze data directly into Rivian navigation

Rather than requiring drivers to run Waze separately, Rivian will add the crowdsourced information through its own in-vehicle navigation. Bensaid did not specify what additional alerts will be added later, but his wording suggests more will be coming. Waze can provide information on crashes, road hazards, closures and several types of traffic cameras.

Based on the photo Bensaid included in his post, it appears as though Rivian owners will not be able to submit reports directly through the vehicle, although this could be added through a future software update when additional alerts are added.

A feature Tesla owners have wanted for years

The announcement will likely catch the attention of Tesla owners, who have been asking for similar functionality for years.

Tesla does not support Apple CarPlay (although it is apparently still in the works) or Android Auto, leaving owners without a native way to use Waze on the main display. That has led to numerous workarounds, including running Waze on your phone instead of using Tesla’s navigation, or using third-party devices or browser-based services.

For now, Rivian has not announced exactly when software update 2026.31 will begin rolling out.
