Rosendale Police Department in New York get Tesla Model 3 police car

Another police department in New York is adding a Tesla police car to its fleet. The Rosendale Police Department have announced they are adding a Model 3 police cruiser, and it should be on the streets in just days.

According to a post to the police department’s Facebook page on June 23, the new Model 3 had already been converted for police use, but still required a few “finishing touches” before it can report for duty.

In another video apparently taken on the same day, we can see the Tesla was already fully equipped with emergency lights. It also has all the appropriate decals so that the public can be sure this Tesla is actually a police car.

Although at first glance their claim to be the first “fully marked uniformed Tesla police car in New York State” might not seem to be true, it actually is.

Late last year the Hastings-on-Hudson PD added a Model Y to its fleet, the first time the electric SUV had been used for an emergency vehicle. Even though they had their Tesla cruiser on New York State streets more than 6 months ahead of Rosendale, their Model Y cruiser is unmarked.

This will be the third police force in New York state to convert to a Tesla cruiser. Yesterday it was revealed the NYPD had also added a Model 3 to its Highway Patrol division.
