Tesla certainly loves Austin and is reportedly leasing another Austin-based building for their operations.
According to a report by the Austin Business Journal, Tesla has leased a 682,000-square-foot facility in Phase 2 of the Austin Hills Commerce Centre. The location at 1801 Decker Lake Road will be completed by January 2027. The facility is around five miles from Giga Texas.
This building is the largest speculative industrial building built in the Austin area. With this lease, Tesla now has over 2.9 million square feet of leased industrial space in Central Texas, along with over 10 million square feet of company-owned real estate, including the Tesla Giga Factory near Austin.
The development itself is led by Sansone Group in partnership with Principal Asset Management. For developers, the bet on building purpose-built manufacturing facilities seems to be working out as Texas is quickly becoming the advanced manufacturing hub in the United States.
Tesla has not revealed what they have planned for the site, but it could be to support the new Optimus facility that is being built beside the current Giga Texas factory.
