We have reported extensively on Tesla’s success in Japan over the past year, where sales have increased massively and set multiple records. That success is pushing the company to also rapidly expands its delivery network in the country, as well as its import capacity.
Tesla sold more than 10,000 vehicles in Japan in 2025, then followed that up with approximately 12,000 registrations in just the first six months of 2026. June alone accounted for nearly 4,000 vehicles, making it Tesla’s strongest month ever in Japan.
To help get all those vehicles into the hands of customers, Tesla is planning to add new four new Delivery Centers – two in in Yokohama and Kobe scheduled to open in August, with another two planned to open in the greater Tokyo area and Nagoya by December 31, 2026. (via Nikkei)
Those four additions would bring the total number of Delivery Centers in Japan to eleven.
But Tesla isn’t only addressing the issue at the customer handoff. The company is also improving its logistics flow upstream, adding Mikawa Port as a second entry point for imported vehicles. Until now, Tesla has relied on Daikoku Wharf in Yokohama for its vehicle imports.
This effectively doubles Tesla’s import capacity in Japan to around 48,000 vehicles per year, while also providing a more convenient entry point for vehicles destined for western Japan.
