SpaceX has quietly brought back the free Starlink Mini rental perk for Residential Max Plan subscribers in the US and Canada.
The Starlink Mini promotion allows users to waive the monthly hardware fee, normally $10, and offers subscribers a 50% discount on a Roam plan. Starlink offers three tiers for the Roam plan: the Roam 100GB for $55 ($75 CAD), the Roam 300GB for $80 ($110 CAD), and Roam Unlimited for $175 ($200 CAD).
The fine print on the Starlink site notes:
The Optional Mini Kit for Travel is available only to customers in select countries with an active Residential Max plan. Customers are eligible to receive a Mini Kit with no monthly hardware rental cost and 50% off Roam plans as long as they maintain an active Residential Max service line. Please allow up to one week after purchasing or upgrading to Residential Max to receive the redemption email.
When this perk was introduced in January, the company experienced shipping delays of up to 4 weeks. So, if you are on the fence, it might be a good time to pull the trigger.
In addition to the return of the Mini Kit Perk, SpaceX has quietly added new limitations to its standard hardware. The new Starlink V5 terminal does not appear to support the very popular standby mode.
Standby mode is a $10-a-month option to pause standard service while maintaining a 0.5 Mbps backup internet connection to the dish. This standby option is a popular service for those with cottages or summer homes that are not used in the off-season.
