While much of the focus lately has been on Europe, Tesla has taken a major step toward bringing Full Self-Driving (FSD) to another part of the world. The company has officially confirmed that it has submitted FSD application documents to the Taiwan’s Vehicle Safety Certification Centre (VSCC).
The announcement, made by Tesla Taiwan on June 15, sets off the beginning of the formal review process required before FSD can be deployed to customers in the country. According to Tesla, the company will work with both the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and the VSCC as the review process moves forward.
Taiwanese officials have previously indicated that FSD (Supervised) could be evaluated under the country’s “new technology driving system” framework because it remains classified as an SAE Level 2 driver-assistance system.
While approval is not guaranteed, the filing is the first step and shows Tesla is actively working with Taiwanese regulators to bring the driver-assistance system to local roads.
Reports from Taiwan indicate the VSCC is expected to first review the completeness of Tesla’s submission before a technical committee evaluates the application and proposed road-testing procedures. If approved, the process would then move to government review before road testing can begin.
That means Taiwanese owners should not expect an immediate rollout, but the regulatory process is now officially underway.
The application to bring FSD to Taiwan wasn’t the only announcement from Tesla. The company also revealed that it will end one-time FSD purchases in Taiwan after June 30, 2026, matching what it has done in other markets as Tesla transitions customers toward a subscription-only based model.
Customers with vehicles waiting for delivery can still add the option before the deadline, while owners who already purchased FSD can transfer the package to a new Tesla if they place a qualifying vehicle order by September 30, 2026.
