Tesla has officially removed the ability for customers to purchase its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software across Europe and the United Kingdom as planned, mirroring the same change Tesla made to its North American configurator earlier this year.
The update means buyers can no longer pay the previous €7,500 one-time fee to add FSD to a new Tesla vehicle. Instead, customers are now limited to a monthly subscription priced at €99 or £99, depending on the market. Similar to North America, the FSD subscription is half the price for owners who have previously purchase Enhanced Autopilot (EAP).
While Tesla still labels the FSD package as “Full Self-Driving (Supervised),” the feature set currently available in Europe remains significantly more limited than what owners in Canada and the United States can access due to regulatory restrictions. Only the Netherlands and Lithuania has so far approved FSD.
Currently, the subscription includes features such as Autosteer, Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, Automatic Lane Changes, Navigate on Autopilot, Dumb Summon (yes, they actually call it that), Actually Smart Summon, Autopark, and Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control.
However, the more advanced end-to-end city street driving capabilities associated with Tesla’s latest FSD software are still awaiting approval under European regulations.
The move also comes just days after Tesla removed Basic Autopilot from the configurator in the Netherlands.

Tesla Shifts Toward Subscription-Based FSD
The removal of the upfront purchase option is part of a broader shift at Tesla to move toward a subscription-focused software business model.
Instead of collecting a large one-time payment, Tesla may now get recurring monthly revenue while waiting for broader FSD approval across Europe. The strategy also lowers the barrier to entry for customers who may be hesitant to spend thousands on software that has been delayed for years and does not yet offer the same functionality available in North America.
The shift is also driven by CEO Elon Musk’s new $1 trillion pay package, which has incentives tied to FSD subscription figures. In order to meet the requirements, Tesla must have 10 million FSD subscribers for three consecutive months.
