Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) is expanding in Europe once again, this time in Belgium. On Wednesday the country officially approved the driver-assistance system for use on public roads.
The announcement came directly from Flemish Minister of Mobility Annick De Ridder, who revealed that she had signed the approval following weeks of testing and regulatory review.
Documents shared by De Ridder show Belgian authorities concluded that FSD demonstrates significant technological potential and is capable of responding to traffic situations in a defensive, cautious, and anticipatory manner.
The review also highlighted the system’s ability to monitor driver attention and noted that, when used as intended, it has the potential to contribute to improved road safety.

From Testing to Approval in Just Weeks
The approval follows an accelerated testing program. On May 22, Belgian officials confirmed Tesla had completed 2,000 kilometres in one week of testing on Flemish roads.
Then just last week, we reported the company had surpassed the full 5,000-kilometre requirement after deploying three vehicles to complete tests of local road conditions, including tram interactions, bicycle streets, construction zones, and Belgian-specific road signage.
Today, just over three weeks after testing first began, FSD is now approved in Belgium.
Fifth European Country to Approve FSD
Belgium is now the fifth European country to approve FSD, and the second this week alone. The recent wave of approvals began with the Netherlands, where the Dutch vehicle authority, the RDW, became the first regulator in Europe to grant approval.
Lithuania followed shortly afterward, then Estonia, and most recently Denmark just yesterday.
The work completed by Dutch authorities was the catalyst to this wave of approvals. Regulators across Europe have been reviewing data and findings from the Netherlands, allowing countries to move through their own approval processes much faster than they otherwise would have been able to.
Tesla has not yet commented on the approval, and they also have not confirmed when the software will begin rolling out to owners in Belgium, but if any of the other markets are an indication, it should happen very soon.
