Tesla has started rolling out a new software update, but this one isn’t for its vehicles or even its Wi-Fi-connected Wall Connector. Instead, the company is deploying a rare update for its Mobile Connector, more than two years after the last documented update.
How The Mobile Connector Update Works
Unlike Tesla’s vehicles, which receive regular software updates throughout the year, updates for the Mobile Connector happen far less frequently. This is partly because the device itself has no way to connect to the internet to download and install an update.
But Tesla was able to come up with a solution – the update is passed through the vehicle to the Mobile Connector. This last happened in June 2024 according to Tesla’s service documentation, which says that vehicles running software version 2024.14 update can update Mobile Connector firmware.
Latest Mobile Connector Firmware Update
While there was no announcement, owners are reporting their Mobile Connectors are receiving a new firmware. Since the update is being passed through the vehicle, there is no notification of the pending update in the mobile app or on the in-car display.
Instead, the update begins downloading after the Mobile Connector has been plugged in and been charging the vehicle for about 10 minutes.

According to Tesla, the actual firmware installation should be completed in about 3 minutes. The vehicle’s high-voltage battery must also have at least a 5% state of charge before the update can take place.
Since there is no notification, there are also no release notes, so it is unclear is what Tesla changed with this latest firmware release. Tesla publishes firmware release notes for the Wall Connector, there is no equivalent for the Mobile Connector.
Should You Update Your Mobile Connector?
Despite the lack of release notes, there’s no indication that this update addresses an urgent issue, but it is still a good idea to let your Mobile Connector install the latest firmware.
This is particularly worth keeping in mind if you have a Mobile Connector that rarely gets used. Many Tesla owners primarily charge at home using a Wall Connector, leaving their Mobile Connector stored elsewhere as a backup.
If yours hasn’t been plugged in for a while, it is probably worth connecting it to your Tesla and charging for at least 10 minutes to give the vehicle an opportunity to check for and install the latest firmware.
