Hyundai leads the way in federal ZEV incentives so far in 2022

EVs are gaining popularity in Canada, and one company, in particular, is leading the charge in utilizing the federal zero-emission vehicle incentive program (iZEV).

As per Canadian Auto News, Hyundai is leading Canada in terms of the number of iZEV rebates halfway through 2022.

Via data from Transport Canada, Hyundai is just inching out Tesla’s overall rebates.

The push came from the Hyundai speeding up deliveries of their two EV models, the IONIQ 5 and Kona, to Canadians.

They also have a bit of an advantage as the program captures their plug-in hybrid models as well.

The top five at the halfway mark of 2022 are:

  1. Hyundai – 7,299
  2. Tesla – 7,054
  3. Toyota – 2,055
  4. Ford – 1,939
  5. Kia – 1,933

When we go a little deeper into the numbers, it does look like there is a clear number one in terms of popularity at the iZEV level.

At the halfway mark, here are the top 5 EVs by iZEV rebate:

  1. Tesla Model 3- 7,054
  2. Hyundai IONIQ 5- 3,227
  3. Hyundai Kona – 2,227
  4. Chevrolet Bolt EUV – 653
  5. Nissan Leaf – 590

Now, these numbers need to be taken with a bit of context.

Hyundai priced the IONIQ 5 to fall under the iZEV program, while the sole Tesla model to fall under the cutoff is the Model 3.

So, these numbers do not include the Model Y, Model X or Model S.

However, nonetheless, there is a clear number two in terms of EV sales in Canada, and that is Hyundai.
