BYD has taken another small but significant step toward launching in Canada, quietly putting a dedicated Canadian website online as the Chinese automaker continues building its presence in the country.
The new BYD Canada website is currently fairly bare bones. There are no vehicles to configure, prices to compare, or dealers to locate. Instead, visitors are greeted with a “COMING SOON” message alongside general information about BYD, its technology, safety ratings, and global sales performance.
While there isn’t much there yet, the existence of a dedicated Canadian website is another strong indication that BYD is moving ahead with its plans to enter the market.
Flash Charging gets prominent billing
Interestingly, one of the technologies featured prominently on the Canadian site is BYD’s Megawatt FLASH Charging system, something that we have covered before here on Drive Tesla, including when the company published job postings suggesting the high-powered charging system was also coming to Canada, along with its EVs.
The company says its second-generation Blade Battery can charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes and reach 97% in nine minutes when paired with its 1,500 kW charging technology. Perhaps more importantly for Canada, BYD says a 20% to 97% charge at -30°C takes just three minutes longer than under normal conditions.
BYD plans to have 20,000 FLASH Charging stations operating in China by the end of 2026, followed by a large-scale international rollout.
Canadian launch pieces falling into place
The website follows a growing number of signs that BYD is preparing for a Canadian passenger vehicle launch. As we have previously reported, BYD posted nearly a dozen Canadian management positions covering sales, marketing, dealer development, finance, after sales, legal, and operations earlier this year.
The website’s legal documents provide another interesting clue. They identify the operator as “BYD Canada Company Limited,” based in Markham, Ontario, and are available in both English and French.
For now, BYD isn’t taking orders. Its terms of use specifically state that the Canadian website does not currently allow purchases, leases, financing applications, reservations, pre-orders, or deposits.
However, between the hiring, plans for charging infrastructure, and now a dedicated Canadian consumer website, BYD is steadily putting the pieces in place for its eventual arrival – the remaining questions are when which EVs it will bring to Canada.
