Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD appears to be moving forward with its plans for Canada, posting a long list of management job postings as it prepares to establish a nationwide sales and dealer network.
The latest hiring push is focused on Toronto, where ten positions are now advertised through BYD North America, covering everything from sales and marketing to dealer development, finance, after sales support, and operations.
Building a Canadian Leadership Team
Among the most significant openings is a Commercial Director position, a senior leadership role responsible for developing BYD’s market-entry strategy, expanding its dealer network, and overseeing sales operations across the country.
According to the job posting on LinkedIn, the successful candidate will “lead the nationwide sales strategy for BYD Passenger Vehicles in Canada” while helping establish dealer partnerships and drive market growth.
The posting also states that BYD is seeking someone with experience launching or scaling a passenger vehicle brand in Canada, highlighting the company’s desire to quickly establish a national presence.

Additional roles include Sales Manager, Marketing Manager, Product Manager, Operations Manager, Network Development Manager, Aftersales Manager, Auto Finance Manager, Legal Counsel, and Human Resources & Administration Manager.
Dealer Network Appears to Be a Priority
Several of the postings focus heavily on dealer operations, suggesting BYD intends to enter Canada through a traditional dealership model rather than adopting a direct-sales approach similar to Tesla.
The Commercial Director role calls for building and managing a nationwide dealer network, while the Sales Manager position would serve as the primary liaison between BYD Canada and its dealer partners.
Candidates are expected to have extensive relationships with dealer groups, distributors, fleet customers, and other industry stakeholders, further indicating that dealer recruitment is already underway behind the scenes.
The emphasis on dealer development aligns with earlier reports suggesting BYD could eventually establish dozens of retail locations across Canada, although the company has not publicly confirmed any specific targets.

“Now We Are Bringing That Momentum to Canada”
Perhaps the strongest confirmation of BYD’s intentions comes directly from the job descriptions themselves. Multiple postings include the statement:
“Now we are bringing that momentum to Canada. Join BYD Canada and help build the future of electric mobility.”
The wording leaves little doubt that BYD is actively preparing to launch its passenger EV business in Canada. And Canadians appear to be excited for it, with most of the job postings already attracting more than 100 applications each just 24 hours after being posted.
Competition for Canada’s EV Market Heats Up
BYD is not the only Chinese automaker assembling a Canadian team. As we have previously reported, Geely’s premium subsidiary Zeekr posted six senior leadership positions tied to the “Geely Auto Brand,” including roles covering sales, marketing, product planning, legal affairs, aftersales, and network development.
With both BYD and Geely now actively recruiting, competition in Canada’s EV market could soon intensify significantly.
While neither company has announced an official launch date, the rapid pace of hiring suggests preparations are well underway. However, their plans are reportedly being pushed to 2027 as the quota-based system has created uncertainty about how many EVs each automaker will be able to import.
