Tesla may have pulled the plug on its in-house vinyl wrap service, nearly three years after first offering the option for the Model 3 and Model Y, and later the Cybertruck.
This is not the first time the service has disappeared however. In 2024 the option to purchase a wrap for the Cybertruck also disappeared, while remaining for the Model 3/Y. The option then returned a month later with a cheaper price and more colour options.
Now the listings have disappeared from the online shop, and since Tesla has not announced the change, it is unclear whether it is permanent, or temporary like before.
Tesla’s wrap program had a short and changing history
Tesla launched its in-house wrap service in October 2023, initially offering several colours for the Model 3 and Model Y at select Service Centers in California.
The program later expanded to the Cybertruck, giving owners an alternative to its exposed stainless-steel exterior. At its peak, Tesla offered as many as 11 colours, although the customization came at a steep price. Cybertruck wraps reached as high as US$8,000, while Model 3 and Model Y wraps cost up to US$6,500.
When Cybertruck wraps returned after a brief one-month disappearance, prices dropped to US$4,500, while Model 3 and Model Y wraps were reduced to US$4,000.
Tesla also expanded the service beyond California, adding its Seattle Service Center in Washington State. It was never made available in Canada.
Tesla leaves wrapping to third-party shops
The removal of the Shop listing, first spotted by Not a Tesla App, could be the end of Tesla’s experiment with installing vinyl wraps itself, but it isn’t the end of customization options for owners. There is a large aftermarket industry offering vinyl and paint protection film (PPF) wraps for Tesla vehicles, often with far more colour and finish choices than Tesla offered – as well as better pricing.
Interestingly, Tesla’s support page for the program remains online. That is likely being kept in place for existing customers, as it contains information on warranty coverage, maintenance and care for vehicles that were previously wrapped by Tesla.
