Tesla Megapacks have been selected for a new 200 MWh battery storage project in Colorado, adding to the company’s growing energy business as demand for Megapacks continues to grow.
According to an announcement on Monday, Madison Energy Infrastructure has partnered with CORE Electric Cooperative to develop a 50-megawatt (MW), 200-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery storage portfolio across three sites in Colorado.
The projects will use Tesla Megapack technology and represent Madison’s largest distributed energy storage deployment to date. Commercial operations are expected to begin by September 2027.
The installations are also among the first projects supported by Madison’s US$50 million (C$70.1 million) agreement with Tesla, highlighting the automaker’s growing involvement in utility-scale energy storage.
The battery systems will support CORE’s electricity distribution network, providing additional capacity to accommodate rising demand from new developments and economic growth throughout the region.
By storing electricity and releasing it during periods of higher demand, the installations will help CORE manage peak loads, control electricity costs, and maintain reliable service for its members.
“Our partnership with CORE Electric Cooperative exemplifies our Community Infrastructure initiative and commitment to delivering value and benefits close to home,” said Richard Walsh, CEO of Madison Energy Infrastructure.
The projects form part of Madison’s broader Community Infrastructure initiative, which focuses on expanding local electricity capacity to support data centres, advanced manufacturing, and other growing industries.
Madison has committed to developing an additional 1 gigawatt (GW) of distributed energy capacity by 2028, while CORE currently provides electricity to more than 375,000 residents across a 5,000-square-mile service area in central Colorado.
