Amazon has reached a major milestone in its push to electrify its transportation network, announcing that more than 50,000 electric delivery vans are now operating across its global logistics fleet.
The achievement puts the e-commerce giant halfway toward its target of deploying 100,000 electric delivery vehicles by 2030.
According to Amazon, its electric vans delivered more than 2.4 billion packages in 2025 with zero emissions.
Europe plays a key role in fleet growth
A significant portion of Amazon’s recent expansion has taken place in Europe, where the company and its delivery partners had more than 10,000 electric delivery vans on the road by the end of 2025.
One of the largest contributors to that growth was Amazon’s deployment of nearly 5,000 electric vans from Mercedes-Benz across Austria, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom. The rollout builds on a €1 billion investment announced in 2022 to help electrify and decarbonize Amazon’s European transportation network.
To support the growing fleet, Amazon has also installed tens of thousands of charging stations at facilities around the world, including thousands across Europe.
Rivian vans remain a cornerstone of Amazon’s EV strategy
While Amazon now utilizes a wide range of electric vehicles tailored to different markets and delivery needs, Rivian’s custom-built delivery vans remain one of the most recognizable components of the company’s fleet. The electric vans were developed through a close partnership between Amazon and Rivian, with both companies working together to design and deploy the vehicles in less than three years.
Amazon says it has now tested and deployed 15 different electric vehicle models globally, including cargo bikes, electric three-wheelers, delivery vans, and heavy-duty trucks.
Beyond vans: bikes, trains, and electric trucks
Amazon’s electrification strategy extends far beyond delivery vans. The company now operates more than 70 micromobility hubs across over 50 European cities, using electric cargo bikes, mopeds, pushcarts, and on-foot deliveries to navigate dense urban environments.
These smaller delivery methods handled more than 30 million deliveries in Europe during 2025 alone and have helped avoid an estimated 17,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions.
Amazon is also expanding its electric truck fleet. More than 100 electric heavy-duty trucks are currently operating across Europe, and the company expects that number to more than double before the end of 2026.
At the same time, Amazon continues to shift more freight from roads to rail and sea transportation. In 2025, more than 170 million packages moved across Europe via rail and maritime routes, helping reduce transportation-related emissions while improving efficiency.
