Tesla is moving forward with plans for what could become one of the largest Supercharger stations in its network, filing permits for a massive charging hub in Willows, California.
According to permit documents uncovered by Supercharger tracker Marco on X, the project will be built on a vacant lot at 475 North Humboldt Avenue just off Interstate 5 and along one of California’s busiest transportation corridors.
When complete, the site will feature 96 V4 Supercharger stalls, making it one of the largest charging locations in California and the United States.
Solar Power and Megapacks Included
The project is designed to be built in multiple phases. Initial plans call for 56 V4 Supercharger stalls in Phase 1, supported by extensive energy infrastructure including two solar canopies, charging cabinets, transformers, and a Tesla Megapack battery storage system.
Permit documents show the site will feature a 122-kW solar photovoltaic array mounted on the canopies and a Megapack capable of storing more than 3.9 MWh of energy, helping reduce strain on the local electrical grid while providing additional resilience during periods of high charging demand.
A dedicated amenity building for drivers will also be constructed as part of the first phase.
Expansion Plans Already in Place
Documents show the site will eventually expand to the full 96-stall buildout, adding another 40 charging stalls in a second phase. The amenity building is also expected to be enlarged as part of the future expansion.
City officials also see the project as an opportunity to attract travelers into the community. In a statement released earlier this year, the City of Willows said the charging hub could help bring additional visitors and economic activity to local businesses as drivers stop to recharge.
Tesla’s Next Generation of Supercharger Sites
This proposed station continues Tesla’s recent trend of building larger, destination-style Supercharger sites designed to serve not only local drivers, but also long-distance travelers.
Two of the most examples are the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles and the Oasis Supercharger in Lost Hills. The diner combines an 80-stall Supercharger station with a retro-themed restaurant, rooftop seating, and giant outdoor movie screens. While the massive Oasis Supercharger is an off-grid charging hub that features 164 charging stalls powered completely by extensive solar arrays and Megapack battery storage.
Like those projects, the proposed Willows station goes beyond simply adding chargers, incorporating solar generation, battery storage, and driver amenities to create a more comprehensive charging destination along one of North America’s busiest highway corridors.
