Tesla is wasting no time restarting its Supercharger expansion in Sweden following the end of IF Metall’s nearly three-year labour dispute, with more than 250 previously blocked charging stalls now set to come online.
The first eight Superchargers opened Thursday in Falköping, with Tesla confirming that a 20-stall station in Ljungby will be next. The Ljungby site has been sitting completed but without power for nearly 30 months.
In total, Tesla says 264 Superchargers across 20 locations can now be energized and opened to the public.
The openings had been prevented by sympathy actions supporting IF Metall, which launched its strike against Tesla in October 2023 after the automaker refused to sign a collective bargaining agreement. The dispute officially ended this week after IF Metall acknowledged there were no striking Tesla employees remaining.
“Now the blockade against Tesla’s Superchargers is lifted and we can begin opening our 250+ established charging stations in Sweden,” Tesla said in a press release.
The company says turning on the blocked sites will increase its Swedish network by more than 20%, pushing it beyond 1,600 Supercharger stalls at over 100 locations.
More than just Tesla owners will benefit, as the Swedish Supercharger network is open to drivers of other EV brands, meaning the expansion will add significant fast-charging capacity for all EV drivers.
