Tesla Semi European launch details coming in September

Tesla is preparing to officially bring the Semi to Europe, with the company confirming it will reveal specifications and launch details for the electric Class 8 truck at IAA Transportation in Germany next month.

Tesla announced the plans on Thursday, saying, “Specs & launch details for Semi in Europe to be unveiled at IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany.”

The event runs from September 15 to 20, with a press day scheduled for September 14. While Tesla has previously brought the Semi to the IAA show, suggesting it will eventually make its way to the region, this will be the first time the company will lay out concrete plans to actually sell the Semi there.

Tesla Semi finally expands beyond North America

The European launch, and the Semi itself, has been a long time coming. Tesla first unveiled the Semi in 2017, initially targeting production in 2019. Limited customer deliveries eventually began in late 2022, primarily to PepsiCo. Since then, the company has taken on several other testing partners, allowing them to refine the truck before higher-volume production began at its Nevada factory earlier this year.

Tesla has yet to reveal how the European Semi will differ from its North American counterpart.

In the U.S., Tesla offers the Semi with different range configurations, including a Long Range version capable of travelling 500 miles (805 km) on a charge, and a Standard Range variant with 325 miles (523 km) range.

The trucks also support 1.2 megawatt (MW) charging. Although the company hasn’t officially published pricing, it is believed the Long Range version sells for approximately $300,000, while the Standard Range retails for around $260,000.

Tesla’s September announcement should finally answer some of the biggest remaining questions, including European pricing and range, and most importantly, when European customers can start adding them to their fleets.
