Tesla Solar Roof coming to Canada later this year: Elon Musk

After first unveiling the Tesla Solar Roof in 2017, CEO Elon Musk confirmed today it will finally make its way to Canada later this year.

Musk made the announcement on Twitter Monday afternoon, when responding to fellow Canadian and Drive Tesla reader Adam Klotz.

We have been expecting the Solar Roof to launch in Canada soon. In September last year new job postings for a “Lead Solar Roofer” and “Solar Roofer” in Toronto appeared on the Tesla Careers page. Those postings are still active on Tesla’s website as of today.

Tesla’s website still shows the Solar Roof as being unavailable with the only option to sign up to get updates on the innovative product. This is a change from last year where we were able to place a reservation for the Solar Roof.

Tesla describes the Solar Roof as being more than three times stronger than standard tiles. They are engineered for all-weather protection and comes with a 25-year tile, power, and weatherization warranty.

Recent installs showing it can easily melt and remove snow to ensure energy generation even in the middle of winter. Musk confirmed it as a feature of the roof tiles, saying they are actually hydrophobic making “snow or ice slide off easily.”
