Tesla launches Robotaxi in Orlando and Tampa ahead of Q2 2026 earnings

Tesla has continued its Robotaxi expansion, officially launching its autonomous ride-hailing service in Orlando and Tampa, Florida.

The announcement came from Tesla’s official Robotaxi account on X, which simply posted, “Robotaxi now in Tampa & Orlando!”

Tesla also revealed the initial geofences for both cities. The Orlando geofence covers a small section of southwestern Orlando, while the Tampa service area encompasses a slightly larger but still small section of northwest Tampa and surrounding neighbourhoods.

The expansion arrives just 18 days after Tesla entered the Florida market with the launch of Robotaxi service in Miami, giving the company three operating cities in the state in less than three weeks.

With Orlando and Tampa now online, Tesla’s Robotaxi network spans seven U.S. markets – Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, while the Bay Area continues to operate as a supervised ride-hailing service with a human safety monitor onboard.

A familiar pre-earnings strategy?

While the progress is welcomed news, the timing of these announcements is becoming difficult to ignore. Tesla unveiled the Orlando and Tampa expansion just one day before its Q2 2026 earnings call. The same pattern played out last quarter when the company announced the launch of Robotaxi service in Dallas and Houston on April 18, only four days before reporting Q1 earnings on April 22.

In the three months since those cities launched, the fleet size in both remains small, with Dallas having 12 vehicles and Houston only 7, according to Robotaxitracker.com.

While companies frequently save major announcements for the days leading up to earnings, Tesla has now done it in consecutive quarters with its Robotaxi program, ensuring the conversation heading into its financial results is focused on expansion rather than missed milestones.

That timing is especially noteworthy this quarter. Several of the highest-ranked shareholder questions submitted for the earnings call focus on Robotaxi execution, including why Tesla has missed previously stated fleet size and expansion targets.

Announcing two additional cities just one day before those questions are addressed helps shift attention toward the network’s continued geographic expansion, even if the overall rollout remains smaller than earlier projections.

Original expansion plans still incomplete

Despite the expansion in Florida in recent week, Tesla has not yet completed the rollout it outlined last year. When the company first revealed its next wave of Robotaxi markets, it identified Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, and Miami as the first cities beyond Austin and the Bay Area.

With Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa now online, Las Vegas and Phoenix remain the two notable omissions from that original list. Given Tesla’s recent pattern, it will be interesting to see whether those launches arrive just before the company’s Q3 earnings call in October.
