Tesla offering 6 months of free Supercharging on new Model 3/Y orders [Update]

If you were thinking of buying a new Tesla Model 3 or Model Y before the end of the year, you might want to place that order sooner rather than later. On Friday the company launched a new promotion offering six months of free Supercharging on all new Model 3 and Model Y orders, but there are some catches.

According to the announcement by the official Tesla North America account on X (formerly Twitter), the offer is only valid if you place your order with a referral code. Not only will this get you six months of free Supercharging, it will also get you the regular referral awards of C$325/US$250 off your purchase price, and three months of Full-Self Driving (FSD).

UPDATE: According to the mobile app, the C$325/US$250 referral discount has been removed, and only the free Supercharger and FSD incentives are now available.

The other important catch is that you must take delivery by December 31, 2023. This likely won’t be an issue as currently the delivery estimates on Tesla’s website indicate new Model Y orders for any variant in both Canada and the US will be delivered in November or December, but it is something to keep in mind as delivery logistics are completely out of the customer’s control.

The value of this offer depends on how much you will be Supercharging over the first three months of ownership. For the average owner this might amount to a couple hundred dollars, but if your living situation means you are unable to have a home charging station and Supercharging is your only option, then it will be worth a lot more to you.

This isn’t the first time Tesla has offered free Supercharging this year as a way to boost sales. Back in June the company offered 3 months of free Supercharging to anyone buying a Model 3 from existing inventory. The company was also offering three years of free Supercharging to new Model S and Model X buyers.

While making these free Supercharging offers for a limited time, Tesla has also been offering discount to try and get existing owners with unlimited free Supercharging to trade-in their vehicles and upgrade to a new Tesla.
