Tesla offering trade-in bonus to Model S/X owners with unlimited free Supercharging

Tesla has launched a new ‘Ownership Loyalty Benefits’ offer for Canadian and US owners of the Model S and Model X with free unlimited Supercharging aimed at getting them to trade-in their vehicles and upgrade to the latest models.

According to the details of the offer on the Tesla website qualifying Model S/X  owners will receive a $7,000 bonus in Canada or a $5,000 bonus in the US on their trade-in value. The only catch is that you must then purchase a new Model S or Model X. (h/t: @SawyerMerritt)

In an email to employees notifying them of the new program, a copy of which was obtained by Drive Tesla, the automaker says they are introducing this offer as “creating lifelong customers is at the forefront of our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.”

Tesla first started offering free unlimited Supercharging when ramping production of the Model S in 2012. What made the perk even more attractive is that it is transferrable to new owners if you sell the car.

That changed when it was also offered on some of the first Model 3 Performance deliveries, as the free Supercharging offer was tied to the first owner and not transferrable.

Since it is such a perk you probably already know that you have free unlimited Supercharging, but if you are unsure open the Tesla app and tap ‘Specs and Warranty’ near the bottom of the screen.

You can read more about the offer and some frequently asked questions on Tesla’s website.
