Tesla’s strong performance in Australia and New Zealand this year continued into June, with the Model Y once again leading sales charts in both countries..
In New Zealand, the electric SUV officially became the country’s best-selling vehicle of any kind, while in Australia, the Model Y was able to repeat the feat it achieved in May and finish as the nation’s top-selling vehicle for a second consecutive month.
Australia Sets New Tesla Record
Tesla recorded its strongest month ever in Australia in June, delivering 8,670 vehicles, comfortably surpassing the previous company record of 7,018 set in June 2023 and eclipsing the 6,433 vehicles delivered in May.
Almost all of those deliveries came from the Model Y, which posted an astonishing 8,072 registrations during the month. That shattered the SUV’s own record of 5,605 registrations set just last month when it became the first EV in Australian history to top the country’s overall sales charts.
The June figure represents a 133.5% increase over the same month last year and makes it highly likely the Model Y will retain its crown as Australia’s best-selling vehicle once full industry sales figures are released. (via Drive)
Tesla’s total Australian sales were up nearly 89% year-over-year, with the company likely finishing among the country’s top automotive brands for the month despite offering only two passenger vehicles.
New Zealand Delivers Another Milestone
Meanwhile in neighbouring New Zealand, the Model Y officially captured the title of best-selling vehicle overall in June.
Tesla registered 908 Model Ys during the month, narrowly beating the Ford Ranger with 872 sales and the Toyota RAV4 with 821. Tesla as a brand recorded 936 total registrations, good enough for third place among passenger vehicle manufacturers in the country. (via AutoTrader)
The June result also came as New Zealand experienced one of its strongest months for electrified vehicles in recent years. Battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids accounted for 38% of all new vehicle registrations in June.
The strong sales for the Model Y in June was more than double the number of vehicles registered last month. In May Tesla recorded 415 Model Y sales in the country, easily in front of its next closest competitor, the BYD Atto 3 with 142 sales.
