Tesla significantly expands Houston Robotaxi service area

Tesla has expanded its Robotaxi service area in Houston, extending coverage well beyond the initial service area from when fully autonomous rides first launched in April.

According to an announcement from Tesla’s official Robotaxi account on X on Monday, the expanded service area is already live, with an accompanying map showing the new boundaries.

The map shows a substantial expansion from the original geofence, which was limited to a relatively small section of northwest Houston.

The new service area stretches further northwest, and also to the southeast through central Houston and into downtown, where the coverage widens considerably. And in case you can’t tell, the new service area is shaped like Starship, yet another nod to a potential merger between Tesla and SpaceX.

The expansion comes just over six months after Tesla launched unsupervised Robotaxi rides in Dallas and Houston on April 18, 2026, adding both cities to its existing Austin operations.

Since then, Tesla has continued expanding coverage in Texas, including a major expansion of the Dallas service area in late August.

More recently, Tesla extended its Austin Robotaxi service area to include Circuit of the Americas (COTA) ahead of the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix.

While the service area has expanded, there is still no Cybercabs in Tesla’s Houston Robotaxi fleet, yet. Tesla has also been testing its purpose-built Cybercab in Houston for several months, and with this expansion it would not be surprising to see Robotaxi launch here soon.
