Tesla gives update on delayed Superchargers in Canada, 7 sites opening this month

Tesla has provided a significant update on the status of Superchargers under construction in Canada, with the company saying seven sites will open over the next three and a half weeks. The update comes as the number of projects sitting idle and waiting to be turned on has grown over the last year.

Tesla is always expanding the Supercharger network in Canada, however the pace of expansion has slowed in recent months. Aside from the McBride Supercharger opening in British Columbia in early June, there have been no other openings across Canada since March.

This four to five month gap would not be too unusual were it not for the fact that there are nearly two dozen sites across the country that are fully built and waiting to be turned on. In most cases these sites have been sitting idle for several months, while others have been stagnant for a year or more, like the Superchargers in Digby and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and Markham, Ontario.

We had noticed the stalled progress, and reached out to the official Tesla Charging account on X for an update on the status of these Superchargers, because as we pointed out in the post, this was the largest number of idle Canadian projects we had ever seen.

In good news for Canadian Tesla owners, the company responded to us with a comprehensive update on the status of these projects, and seven of them will be opening this month.

According to Tesla, the following Superchargers will be opening in August. This list includes the first V4 Supercharger in Canada in Kananaskis.

As for the others on the list, most of them will be opening before the end of the year, with the company saying the delay is due to the local utility company. Several in Ontario will be opening in early 2025.
