Tesla FSD V14 Lite for Model S and Model X could finally be coming soon

Tesla owners with older Model S and Model X vehicles may finally be close to receiving FSD V14 Lite, months after the software began rolling out to other Hardware 3 (HW3/AI3) vehicles.

FSD V14 Lite first began reaching HW3 vehicles earlier this year before Tesla expanded the rollout across Canada and the United States in July. However, the rollout has only been available for Model 3 and Model Y, leaving owners of older Model S and Model X vehicles waiting.

The long wait has been exacerbated by a complete lack of communication from Tesla on when the software would arrive for some of the company’s earliest adopters.

While there still has been no official statement, there is now unofficial word it could be coming soon. The update comes from our friend at Ride the Lightning podcast Ryan McCaffrey, who spoke with Tesla’s Vice President of AI Software Ashok Elluswamy during last week’s Cybercab launch in Austin.

McCaffrey specifically asked when Model S and Model X owners with HW3 could expect V14 Lite. According to McCaffrey, Elluswamy responded, “Oh, I thought it was supposed to go out last week.”

Elluswamy’s comment doesn’t guarantee the Model S/X rollout will begin immediately, and many fans were quick to point out previous statements from Elluswamy that didn’t meet his announced timelines. Still, if he expected it to have already been deployed, HW3 Model S and Model X owners may not have much longer to wait.

FSD V14 Lite was developed specifically for Tesla’s older HW3 computer, bringing over many of the improvements introduced with the newer V14 software running on HW4 vehicles. It includes improvements to intersections, merges, pedestrians, cut-ins and navigation, along with smoother steering and fewer unnecessary slowdowns.

The software also brought HW3 owners several features previously found on newer vehicles, including parking and unparking, reversing, Arrival Options and city-driving Speed Profiles. Later updates added features such as the Self-Driving app and the ability to initiate FSD from Park in certain situations.
