Austrian Airlines is the latest to join the Starlink in-flight WiFi party, with the airline completing its first passenger flight using the satellite-based service on Monday.
The first Starlink-equipped flight departed Vienna for Porto on September 7 aboard an Airbus A320neo, registration OE-LXF. Austrian Airlines CEO Annette Mann was also onboard for the inaugural flight.
The launch makes Austrian Airlines the latest carrier to switch to SpaceX’s Starlink, giving passengers an internet connection designed to behave much more like what they are used to on the ground.

While this was just the inaugural flight, Austrian isn’t wasting much time expanding availability. The airline plans to have 20 aircraft equipped with Starlink by the end of its 2026/27 winter schedule.
From there, installations will continue across its Airbus A320-family aircraft and Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with the rollout expected to be completed by 2029.
Austrian is also just one piece of a much larger Starlink expansion within Lufthansa Group. The company announced earlier this year that approximately 850 aircraft across its airlines will receive the service, making it one of the largest Starlink aviation deployments announced to date.
The Starlink deployment within Lufthansa Group started last month with Lufthansa Airlines. Other airlines within the group include SWISS, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa City Airlines and Eurowings.
