The Tesla smartphone app has gained a new feature via the latest update. It can now display when Full Self-Driving (FSD) is active.
Owners on the latest updates from Tesla can now see from their phone when their car is self-driving. As spotted by X user Jordan Camina (@hletes), the app interface now displays a Self-Driving label. The indicator can be found directly under the battery and speed readouts.
The new feature can be seen in a short clip posted by Jordan. To the left of the 3D car model indicating the car is in motion, Self-Driving is visible in blue, just like when you are in the vehicle.
This new feature comes with version 4.58.5 of the Tesla app, which started rolling out to customers last week. However, the Self-Driving notification requires the car to be on software version 2026.20.6.1.

While Tesla restricts some FSD features based on hardware version, this new label is available even on older hardware. Camina’s video is actually from a HW3 Model S, implying Tesla owners on Intel or AMD, or HW3 or HW4, can expect to see the feature.
Apart from the new label, certain wording in the 4.58.5 update could hint at exciting upcoming features. For example, it has been suggested that Tesla may use the cabin camera to authenticate FSD users, which could be useful for fleet management.
