A day-one Rivian R2 has appeared on the online used EV market. With just a few miles on the odometer, the electric SUV is offered with a markup of more than $20,000.
The Rivian R2 is listed for $79,900 on Cars.com. It is offered by an online marketplace user based in Colorado. The car was initially purchased as a gift, according to the seller, but the recipient apparently is not drawn to the outdoor lifestyle.
According to the vehicle-identification number, the unit was likely the 1,156th to roll off the assembly line at Rivian’s plant in Normal, Illinois.
The EV is barely used, with just 50 miles on the odometer. It is a Performance Launch Edition with a Half Moon Grey finish and 20-inch Al-Terrain wheels. Inside, the seats are black leather. The Launch Edition perks include a lifetime subscription to Rivian’s Autonomy+ ADAS package enabling hands-free driving. The prospective buyer also gets original charging cables, key cards, and a remote.
Specs-wise, the used all-wheel drive (AWD) R2 outputs 656 horsepower from two electric motors.
At the offering price, the R2 is about $20,000 more than the owner paid. The electric SUV is the only variant available to order and starts at just $57,990, plus a $1,495 destination charge.
It also comes in close to the starting price of a new R1S, leaving some to wonder why anyone would pay that premium.
Rivian began delivering the R2 Performance Launch Edition in June 2026, so it has taken about a month for the first unit to change hands privately. However, Rivian’s approach of making customers wait for an invitation to place an order might make listings like this more enticing.
The company plans to introduce the less expensive Premium, Standard, and base R2 versions this year and in 2027.
