A decompile of the latest Tesla mobile app has uncovered several features currently under development, including Robotaxi rides from Service Centers, smarter Charge on Solar controls, and a useful change for owners who remove their aero wheel covers.
The new code was discovered in Tesla app version 4.60.5 by Tesla_App_iOS on X. As always with app decompiles, the presence of these features doesn’t guarantee when, or even if they will be released, but provides an inside look at what Tesla is developing.
Robotaxi Instead of Loaners
Perhaps the most interesting discovery is a new sv_transport_robotaxi reference buried in Tesla’s Service transportation system.
Tesla already uses the app to arrange alternative transportation when a vehicle is in for service, such as a loaner or rideshare credit with a company like Uber or Lyft. The new reference suggests Robotaxi is being added as another transportation option.
That could eventually mean dropping your Tesla off for repairs and having a Robotaxi take you home. However, the code only confirms Robotaxi as a Service transportation category, not that Tesla plans to replace existing loaners or rideshare options. It would of course also be limited initially to cities where the Robotaxi network operates, which includes Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Tampa, Orlando, as well as the Bay Area in California.
Charge on Solar Gets Smarter
Tesla also appears to be addressing one of the potential drawbacks of relying heavily on solar energy for vehicle charging. New Charge on Solar code includes the description, “Set minimum charge for your daily driving needs. Some grid energy will be used to meet target.”
The feature would allow owners to set a minimum amount of energy needed for everyday driving. If there isn’t enough excess solar available, the system could use grid electricity to reach that minimum before reserving further charging for solar.
Your Tesla’s Digital Twin Gets More Accurate
A smaller but welcome change for some owners is coming to Tesla’s 3D vehicle visualizer. New code allows owners to toggle aero wheel covers on or off, meaning owners who remove their aero covers can finally make their digital vehicle match the real thing.
It is unclear how this new feature will differ from Tesla’s existing Wheel Configuration menu, which already allows owners to change the wheels shown on their vehicle’s visualization. Model 3 owners can currently select the 18-inch Aero wheels without their covers, but the same option has not been available for other aero-style wheels, such as the Model Y’s Gemini wheels.
The new app code could therefore be pointing to broader support for removing wheel covers from the visualization across Tesla’s lineup, perhaps without changing the underlying wheel configuration.
Tesla has also added support for the new 20-inch Uberhelix wheels found on the Model Y L.
