Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its first in-house-developed full-size SUV, and the numbers put it among the most powerful electric SUVs on the market. The new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV delivers up to 860 kW (1,153 hp), accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, and supports DC fast charging at up to 710 kW.

Built on the company’s AMG.EA electric platform, the performance SUV will be offered in three versions, with up to 700 kilometres of WLTP range and a battery capable of charging from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 12 minutes.

The GT SUV follows the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé as the second production vehicle developed on the AMG.EA architecture. Both models use advanced axial flux motors (on the GT SUV’s 63 and 55 versions) and battery technology developed specifically for high-performance electric vehicles.

Three Versions With Up to 860 kW (1,153 hp)

The flagship GT 63 SUV features three electric motors producing 860 kW (1,153 hp) and 2,000 Nm of torque. The GT 55 delivers 600 kW (805 hp), while the entry-level GT 53 uses a dual-motor setup producing 400 kW (537 hp). Mercedes says all figures are preliminary.

Mercedes-AMG is offering two battery capacities, 106 kWh and 128 kWh, with the larger pack supporting charging speeds of up to 710 kW. Under ideal conditions, drivers can add approximately 450 kilometres of WLTP range in just 10 minutes.

The company has also developed a new active suspension system, rear-wheel steering, and simulated V8 engine sounds (six-cylinder on the GT 53) with virtual gear changes.

Inside, the GT SUV features a 14-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, and an optional passenger display. Its infotainment system also integrates ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Bing.

Production will take place in Sindelfingen, Germany. Orders for the GT 53 open October 20 in Europe, where it starts at €113,050 (C$179,840) in Germany, with first Swiss deliveries expected in February 2027. The GT 63 and GT 55 follow in spring 2027.

Canadian pricing and availability have not been announced.
