According to multiple user posts, Tesla owners running the new Full Self-Driving version 14 Lite on Hardware 3 vehicles are reporting significant issues with the update.
On social media multiple owners are reporting overheating alerts from Autopilot on their cars, while others have seen outright computer failures.
The most common fault has been APP_w141_ECU_Thermal_Issue. This fault is triggered when the board goes above 90 degrees Celsius.
Hardware 3 vehicles are memory-constrained, with only 8 GB of RAM on board. For comparison, Hardware 4 vehicles run a minimum of 32 GB. Due to these memory constraints, Tesla pushed this “distilled” lite version of version 14 to give these drivers the update without risking slowing down the computer.
Tesla has not responded to owners, nor have they confirmed that V14 Lite is linked to the thermal events. However, since the majority of Hardware 3 owners are no longer covered by Tesla warranties, it might be a good idea to keep an eye out for these issues until more information or a fix is released.
