Tesla begins rolling out FSD V14 Lite to AI3 owners after 18-month wait [2026.20.5.1]

Tesla has officially started rolling out FSD V14 Lite to Hardware 3 (HW3/AI3) vehicles on schedule. Earlier this year the company promised the long-awaited FSD update would arrive by the end of June, and with just over a day to spare, software update 2026.20.5.1 started rolling out late Sunday night.

While V14 Lite is now finally in the hands of AI3 owners after an 18-month wait, it is currently limited to those enrolled in the Early Access Program.

“FSD v14 Lite is now rolling out to AI3 early-access customers. Based on the feedback, will rollout to more customers over the next few weeks,” Tesla’s head of AI Ashok Elluswamy said on X.

The release is more than just a collection of new features. Instead, the company says it has successfully brought the intelligence developed for the latest Hardware 4 (AI4) V14 stack to older vehicles through a process it describes as “distillation.”

The company says this process allows AI3 vehicles to benefit from many of the advances developed for newer vehicles, including reinforcement learning (RL) techniques and offline training models that until now had only been available on AI4-equipped cars.

One of the biggest additions is the introduction of parking, unparking, and reversing capabilities, features that have been absent from AI3 vehicles while Tesla focused development efforts on AI4.

V14 Lite also introduces new Arrival Options, allowing drivers to choose how FSD should complete a trip once it reaches its destination. Those options include Parking Lot, Street, or Driveway, or a curbside drop-off similar to Tesla’s Robotaxi service.

Tesla says these preferences can be saved for individual destinations, creating a more personalized and autonomous arrival experience.

The update also expands Speed Profiles. AI3 drivers can now select between driving styles such as Sloth, Chill, Standard, and Hurry for the first time.

The first major update in nearly a year and a half

The release is particularly significant because AI3 owners have been frozen on FSD v12.6.4 since early 2025 while AI4 vehicles rapidly progressed through V13 and now V14 development.

During that period, CEO Elon Musk publicly acknowledged that AI3 would not have the capability necessary to support the company’s long-promised unsupervised FSD.

That admission represented a major shift in Tesla’s messaging. For years, the company maintained that AI3 contained all the hardware necessary for future autonomous functionality. In a post on X on Monday morning, Musk went so far as to explain that the AI3 computer “only has ~15% of the effective memory bandwidth of AI4.”

Following the backlash, Musk promised that Tesla would provide hardware upgrades to customers who purchased FSD. V14 Lite appears to be Tesla’s attempt to bridge that gap by bringing as much of the AI4 experience as possible to older vehicles without requiring an immediate retrofit.

No sign of V14 Lite in Canada

For now, the rollout remains limited to Early Access customers in the United States. As of Monday morning we have not received any reports of the update arriving for any Canadian owners.

Tesla did recently say V14 Lite would launch in the U.S. first before expanding to international markets, notably referring specifically to the “US” rather than North America, but hopefully that was just an oversight and we’ll see the update in Canada soon.
