Tesla’s rollout of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v14 in Australia and New Zealand has started, but not for all Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) owners. Those with the new six-seat Model YL are being told they will have to wait longer before receiving the software.
According to the email sent to owners this week, Australia and New Zealand are serving as the first markets where FSD v14 is being introduced on the Model YL, meaning Tesla needs additional real-world driving data and further refinement before expanding the software to owners.
“The rollout of FSD (Supervised) v14 has commenced in Australia and New Zealand. As the first market to introduce FSD v14 to Model Y L, additional refinement and real-world data is required for this model before activation can be extended more broadly,” Tesla wrote.
Another wait for new Model YL owners
While Tesla launched FSD (Supervised) v13 in Australia and New Zealand earlier this year, the company stopped activating FSD on newly delivered vehicles until v14 was ready to be released. Tesla later explained that it wanted new owners to experience the latest version of the software rather than deploying v13 and upgrading them shortly afterward.
FSD v14 began rolling out to existing vehicles last week, seemingly ending the wait. However, Model YL owners are now facing another delay.
Tesla said it is treating the issue as a priority and is “actively working to progress Model Y L as quickly as possible,” adding that activation will follow once the current phase of development is complete.
No release date yet
Tesla did not provide a timeline for when Model Y L owners can expect access to FSD v14.
“While a confirmed release date for Model YL is still pending, please know that our team is actively working on development and you will be notified as soon as the update is ready to install on your vehicle,” the company said.
Although the delay will undoubtedly disappoint owners eager to use the software, it indicates Tesla is taking a more cautious approach with its latest vehicle platform, gathering additional real-world data before a wider rollout. Hopefully it doesn’t take as long as it took for FSD to be released on Tesla’s other most recent platform, the Cybertruck, which took more than 10 months to arrive.
