Latvia has officially approved Tesla Assisted Driving, following similar developments in Slovakia, as Tesla continues expanding its supervised driving technology across Europe.

According to the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD), Latvia formally recognized the provisional European Union type approval issued by the Netherlands’ vehicle authority, RDW, on Monday.

Tesla confirmed the approval in a post on X, saying, “Now approved in Latvia  Rollout begins soon.” The feature will arrive through a software update.

The approval follows Tesla’s European debut of Full Self-Driving (FSD) (Supervised) in the Netherlands in April, with several other countries subsequently recognizing the Dutch authorization.

Tesla also recently renamed FSD to Tesla Assisted Driving on its European websites, although the technology remains a Level 2 driver assistance system requiring active driver supervision.

Before granting approval, CSDD reviewed documentation from RDW and information provided by Tesla, including several changes to the system.

These include a lower maximum threshold for exceeding posted speed limits, stronger driver monitoring, and automatically resetting any manually selected speed offset after each trip.

In addition, CSDD stressed that drivers remain fully responsible for their vehicles, including traffic violations and accidents, and warned against using smartphones or becoming distracted.

The authority also highlighted potential limitations in Latvia, where snow, mud and road salt can interfere with the system’s operation.

Meanwhile, the approval comes just months after Tesla officially launched sales in Latvia in July, opening a pop-up store in the capital city of Riga.
