Tesla begins Model Y deliveries in Taiwan

Tesla has started deliveries of the Model Y in Taiwan, marking the first time the automaker has delivered cars made at Giga Berlin outside of Europe.

Back in September Tesla opened up orders for the electric SUV in Taiwan, offering both the Model Y Long Range and Model Y Performance variants. Just a month later and customers who had placed an order were already being assigned delivery dates and VINs, confirming our reporting that the cars set to be delivered in the east Asian country were coming from Germany.

While it might seem strange that Tesla shipped Model Ys from Germany instead of China, which is just about 700km (434 miles) away from Taiwan, it had to because of the ongoing geopolitical tensions between Taiwan and China.

The Long Range variant in Taiwan is priced at NT$2,299,900, or about $98,000 CAD or $72,500 USD, a slight premium over prices in North America.

Opting for the top-of-the-line Performance variant will set you back NT$2,599,900, or about $110,600 CAD or $82,000 USD.
