Tesla Model 3 is Germany’s best-selling EV in March, nearly doubling sales from February

The Tesla Model 3 is continuing to be a fan favourite in Germany, placing first overall in electric vehicle sales for the month of March 2021.

According to the latest figures from the EV Sales blog, Tesla registered 3,699 sales in March, an impressive 94% increase from February. That was enough to put it ahead of the hometown Volkswagen e-Up, which has been available since 2013.

Rounding out the top three was the Hyundai Kona EV.

The strong figures for March helped the Model 3 close-in on first place overall for EV sales in Germany in 2021. The electric sedan jumped six spots from eighth to second, 1,229 units behind the first place VW e-Up, and just 80 units ahead of the third place VW ID.3.

All of this is happening before Tesla opens their new factory in Germany. Giga Berlin is expected to complete construction in just a few months, and based on a recent letter from the automaker, it should be operational in July. The first vehicles rolling off the production line will be the Model Y with the new structural battery packs and 4680 cells.
