It turns out that Rivian vehicles have a secret Service Mode, and just like video games from the 80s and 90s, it takes a few taps and a secret code to get into.
After probably more than a few tries, Motortrend somehow figured out the secret cheat code on a Rivian R1T.
To get into Service Mode, you need to:
- Tap on the three-dot icon on the bottom bar
- Tap on the top black bar five times
- Tap on the three-dot icon again
- Tap the R (Ride) icon that appears
- A quote from John Muir will appear
- Tap the screen a few times, and then a PIN ask will appear
- Enter in 7433 (RIDE), and you are in!
So, what comes up under this hidden Service Mode?
There is of course a Service tab, which you should leave for Rivian’s trained service technicians to avoid doing anything that might harm your EV.
There is also the Diagnostics tab, where you can see a bunch of modules. You may also have some mismatched alerts, but this should not be concerning; if your vehicle is not showing any warnings, you are good to go.
Under the Dashboards tab, you can find a trove of data that provides some additional insights about the performance and capabilities of your Rivian.
- E_SOE_pack_max- shows the total pack capacity.
- E_SOE_pack_user_real_max- shows the usable capacity.
- Lifetime_enery_consumptopn_kwh- shows the overall energy consumption of the vehicle.
- You can also check our torque and RPM, which are updated in real-time.
However, this little hack may not be around for long. Rivian may not want users to be able to access this backend software mode, and it could be patched or the sequence of steps to access it changed in a future over-the-air (OTA) software update, until someone else figures out how to access it again.
If it is patched, we hope to see Rivian bringing some of this data out into the open for owners.
