Federal: EVAP
$5,000 for battery-electric and $2,500 for plug-in hybrids in 2026. The final price must be $50,000 or less (no cap for Canadian-made EVs), and the vehicle must be made in Canada or a free-trade partner country.
Provincial rebates
Quebec’s Roulez vert gives up to $2,000 in 2026 ($1,000 or $500 for plug-in hybrids). Manitoba gives $4,000 on new EVs and plug-in hybrids under $70,000 bought from a Manitoba dealer.

Prices are starting MSRPs; change the price to match your trim and options, since options and dealer fees count toward the caps. With the switch on, we add freight and PDI and charge GST/HST/PST on the full price before rebates, the way the programs require. Licensing, tire and A/C levies, dealer admin fees and luxury tax are not included. Manitoba’s rebate is paid by Manitoba Public Insurance after you register the vehicle, not at the dealer. Rebates don’t reduce your sales tax
GST, HST and PST are charged on the full price of the car, including freight, before any rebate comes off. Transport Canada says the seller “will apply taxes and fees first, then apply the incentive,” and Quebec’s Roulez vert rules say taxes are calculated on the price before the government rebate. So the rebate lowers what you pay, but not the tax.
Example, 2027 Toyota C-HR SE in Quebec: $44,895 + $1,930 freight and PDI = $46,825. GST + QST (14.975%) on that is $7,012.04, for $53,837.04. Then the $5,000 federal and $2,000 Quebec rebates come off, for an estimated $46,837.04. If tax were charged after the rebates, it would be about $1,048 lower.

Used EVs
Quebec gives $1,000 on an eligible used EV registered in 2026. Manitoba gives $2,500 on used EVs under $70,000 bought from a Manitoba dealer (Tesla and China-built EVs excluded). The federal EVAP covers new vehicles only.
Fees to know: some provinces now charge EV owners instead of offering rebates: Alberta ($200 a year), Saskatchewan ($300 a year), and Nova Scotia ($500 every two years from October 1, 2026).
Which EVs qualify: 46 vehicles
These are the new non-Tesla EVs (35 battery-electric, 11 plug-in hybrids) sold in Canada in 2026 that appear on at least one official eligible-vehicle list: Transport Canada’s EVAP list, Quebec’s Roulez vert list or Manitoba’s EV rebate list. 29 of them qualify for the federal incentive. Trims listed are the ones each program names; the federal amount assumes the final price stays at or under $50,000.

Federal incentive: Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP)
Available Ottawa launched the Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) on February 16, 2026, after the old iZEV program ran out of money in January 2025. It runs until March 31, 2031, or until the money runs out. Transport Canada reported $2.00 billion of its $2.275 billion budget still available as of September 1, 2026.
- Amount: up to $5,000 for a battery-electric or hydrogen vehicle and $2,500 for a plug-in hybrid in 2026. Battery-electric drops to $4,000 in 2027, $3,000 in 2028 and 2029, and $2,000 in 2030 and 2031. Plug-in hybrids drop to $2,000 in 2027, $1,500 in 2028 and 2029, and $1,000 in 2030 and 2031. The amount depends on the date the seller submits your eligibility assessment, not your order date.
- Price cap: the final transaction value must be $50,000 or less. That includes the vehicle, options, accessories and dealer or admin fees, minus any manufacturer or dealer discounts, but not taxes, freight, PDI, financing, extended warranties, winter tires or chargers. Canadian-made EVs have no cap.
- Where it’s built: the vehicle must be made in Canada or a country with a free-trade agreement with Canada. China-built vehicles don’t qualify.
- Leasing: 12 months minimum, prorated. A 48-month lease gets the full amount; for a battery-electric vehicle that’s $5,000, with $3,750 for 36 months, $2,500 for 24 months and $1,250 for 12 months (half those amounts for plug-in hybrids).
- Limits: one incentive per person over the five-year program. You must be a Canadian resident. No income test. New vehicles only (demos under 10,000 km count as new).
- How you get it: an enrolled dealer applies it at the point of sale. Sales tax is calculated on the full price first, then the incentive is deducted, so it doesn’t lower your tax.
Canadian-made exception: the Dodge Charger Daytona is built in Canada, so both the R/T and the Scat Pack qualify for the full $5,000 even though they cost more than $50,000.

FAQ
Do rebates reduce the sales tax I pay?
No. The seller charges GST, HST or PST on the full price, including freight and PDI, and then deducts the rebate. That is how Transport Canada’s EVAP and Quebec’s Roulez vert both work, and Manitoba’s rebate is paid after the sale. In Quebec, you still pay tax on $7,000 of combined rebates, about $1,048. In B.C., PST on a new EV or plug-in hybrid is 7% under $75,000 and rises to 8% to 10% between $75,000 and $124,999.
Can I combine the federal and provincial rebates?
Yes. Transport Canada applies EVAP on top of any provincial incentive, and Manitoba confirms EVAP buyers can also claim its rebate. A battery-electric vehicle that qualifies for both can get $7,000 in Quebec ($5,000 + $2,000) or $9,000 in Manitoba ($5,000 + $4,000).
Why isn’t my EV on the list?
Usually price or origin. EVAP only covers vehicles made in Canada or a free-trade partner country with a final price of $50,000 or less, so most luxury EVs and all China-built models miss out. Quebec and Manitoba approve specific model years and trims, so a new model year may not be listed yet. Transport Canada says its list isn’t exhaustive, and a discount that brings the final price to $50,000 or less can make an unlisted vehicle eligible.
Do options and dealer fees count toward the price cap?
Yes. EVAP counts options, accessories, paint and dealer or admin fees, and subtracts discounts. Freight, PDI, taxes, winter tires, chargers and extended warranties don’t count. Quebec uses MSRP including options (under $65,000) and Manitoba uses MSRP (under $70,000). A trim that starts just under a cap can go over once you add options.
Do plug-in hybrids qualify?
Yes, at lower amounts. EVAP gives $2,500 for a plug-in hybrid in 2026. Quebec gives $1,000 for a battery of 15 kWh or more and $500 for 8 to 15 kWh. Manitoba gives the same $4,000 as for a battery-electric vehicle.
What if my EV is delivered in 2027?
EVAP drops to $4,000 for battery-electric vehicles and $2,000 for plug-in hybrids in 2027, based on when the dealer submits the eligibility assessment. Quebec’s Roulez vert ends December 31, 2026, and vehicles registered in 2027 get $0. Manitoba’s program was extended in Budget 2026 with no end date published.
What about Tesla?
