Early NHTSA testing of Rivian R1T reveals problem with hood “fluttering”

Rivian has been in the headlines this week for all the wrong reasons, raising prices on their lineup of vehicles by 20% or more when you include options and accessories.

Now the fledgling automaker is facing a quality control issue after providing some of their vehicles to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for safety testing.

According to a ‘Manufacturer Communication’ posted to the NHTSA recall database, some model year 2022 R1T electric trucks may have been built with insufficient adhesive that may not bond the outer hood to the inner hood.

This causes the hood “fluttering” at speeds above 70mph (112km/h).

As a result, Rivian has issued a customer satisfaction campaign to correct the issue, which involves removing the hood liner and inspecting if there is a “path” of adhesive.

If not, the service technician applies the necessary adhesive and reinstalls the liner.
