Kia Dropping Popular Niro from Canadian Lineup After 2026

Kia Niro

Kia is discontinuing the Niro in Canada at the end of 2026, despite the popular crossover posting impressive sales growth over the past two years. The decision comes as Kia prepares to introduce an updated 2027 model in the United States, leaving Canadian buyers without one of the brand’s most affordable and fuel-efficient vehicles.

The decision is particularly surprising given the Niro’s recent sales performance. Canadian sales jumped 45.9% in 2025, surpassing 10,000 units. That momentum continued into the first half of 2026, with 5,449 units sold, an increase of 21% over the same period last year.

For now, kia.ca still lists the 2026 Niro Hybrid and Niro EV, while the Niro PHEV has already been discontinued here. News of the demise of the Niro in Canada was confirmed to The Car Guide.

Buyers looking for a small, efficient Kia will be steered toward the redesigned 2027 Seltos, which adds a hybrid powertrain, or toward the brand’s newer electric vehicles like the EV3 crossover and the EV4 sedan.

Americans Get an Updated Niro for 2027

Unlike the recent trend where Canada gets an exclusive EV while our friends south of the border are left out, the Niro will carry on in the U.S. with a 2027 refresh that brings updated styling, new technology and more driver assistance features. It’s hybrid-only there, though – the PHEV and Niro EV are gone in the U.S., too.

It’s the second small Kia to vanish from Canadian showrooms in two years, after the Soul. Kia’s Canadian and U.S. lineups keep drifting apart. It goes both ways: Kia sells the EV4 and EV5 here, but not in the U.S.
