BMW’s Neue Klasse lineup is growing again, this time with an electric SUV coupe. The new BMW iX4 will start at $79,900 in Canada with an estimated 680 km of range and charging speeds of up to 400 kW.

The iX4 is BMW’s third Neue Klasse model, following the iX3 SUV and new i3 sedan. Its starting price puts it $4,000 above the Canadian iX3, giving buyers another option built around BMW’s next-generation electric platform.

Launching in March 2027, the iX4 50 xDrive combines two motors, all-wheel drive, 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque. BMW estimates a zero-to-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds.

Its 112.2 kWh battery and 800-volt architecture are the bigger story for road trips. BMW says a suitable high-power charger can add up to 296 km of range in 10 minutes, while charging from 10% to 80% takes 21 minutes. The 680 km range figure remains preliminary.

Buyers looking for more performance will get an M60 xDrive version later in 2027. That model produces 603 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque, cutting the estimated acceleration time to 3.9 seconds. Canadian pricing has not been provided in the announcement.

Inside, BMW’s Panoramic iDrive projects information across the bottom of the windshield, alongside a 17.9-inch touchscreen. An M Sport package and full-length panoramic glass roof come standard.

The iX4 also supports bidirectional charging through optional vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) adapters. Available Highway Assistant allows hands-free highway driving at up to 130 km/h.

Both versions will be built in Debrecen, Hungary, alongside the iX3. For Canadian shoppers, the iX4 adds a sportier body style without giving up the fast-charging technology that makes BMW’s new EV lineup worth watching as more models reach dealerships over the next year.
