Rivian sets new delivery date for R1T and R1S electric vehicles

Rivian has now informed customers of a new delivery date for the R1T and R1S electric vehicles (EVs) that were pushed back earlier this year due to coronavirus delays.

Soon after the pandemic began Rivian informed reservation holders production had been delayed, and would instead begin in 2021.

In a follow-up email to reservation holders, the automaker set a new date, saying deliveries would officially begin in June 2021 for the R1T electric pickup truck, while the R1S electric SUV will begin deliveries in August 2021.

The new delivery dates come as the automaker says it was able to begin running its pilot production line at its renovated facility in Normal, Illinois.

Rivian announced earlier this year the R1T pickup truck will start at $69,000 USD (~$92,000 CAD), and come with two different battery options that can provide 230 miles (370km) up to 400 miles (643km) on a full charge.

The automaker recently got a financial boost by securing $2.5 billion in new funding from several prominent investment groups and funds.
