China’s XPeng Motors has reached a significant milestone in its journey as an automaker. On Monday the automaker announced it has built the 100,000th electric vehicle (EV) at its manufacturing facility in Zhaoqing, Guangdong.
The milestone vehicle was the P7 luxury electric sedan, originally seen by many as a competitor to the Tesla Model S.
Xpeng delivered the first P7 to a customer in June 2020. Since then the EV has seen strong sales, especially recently with a string of 5 straight monthly delivery records.
In September the automaker delivered 7,512 P7 sedans, in the process passing the 50,000th P7 delivered.
The company has plans to increase its production capacity at Zhaoqing. In August they broke ground on phase 2 of the factory, which will increase production capacity from 100,000 to 200,000 vehicles per year, according to CNEVPost.
