Waymo is launching a new subscription service aimed at its most loyal customers. The autonomous ride-hailing company announced on Thursday that it is rolling out Waymo Premier, an invite-only membership program that promises faster access to robotaxis, ride rewards, and exclusive perks for frequent users of its driverless service.
Priced at US$29.99 per month, the new offering is initially being made available to select riders in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, three of Waymo’s largest and most established markets.
Priority Pickups and Ride Rewards
The biggest benefit for subscribers is priority access to Waymo vehicles. Members receive what the company calls “prioritized matching,” allowing them to skip ahead in the queue during busy periods when demand is high.
Premier members will also earn 10% back in Waymo Cash on every trip, with the company promising even greater rewards during peak demand periods. The credits can be applied toward future rides, potentially offsetting a portion of the monthly subscription cost for heavy users.
Additional perks include up to five free ride cancellations per month and early access to Waymo service launches in new cities. As the company continues expanding its robotaxi network across the United States, Premier subscribers will be among the first riders invited to use the service in new markets.
A New Revenue Model for Robotaxis
The new membership program shows how the robotaxi business is maturing. As Waymo’s rider base grows, the company is expanding beyond a simple pay-per-ride model and introducing a subscription offering designed to encourage loyalty among its most active customers.
However, the program won’t be available everywhere Waymo operates. Riders in Austin and Atlanta, where Waymo trips are booked through Uber rather than the Waymo app, are currently excluded from Premier. The limitation highlights one downside of relying on third-party platforms, as Waymo cannot offer app-specific membership benefits in markets where it doesn’t control the customer relationship.
